Privacy Policy
Updated 29 October 2026
Lanes has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page lists everything that leaves your phone, who receives it, how long it's kept and why.
Lanes is run by Risk Creatives Enterprise in Malaysia ("we"). Questions or requests: [email protected].
Your location
Lanes uses your location to show where you are, plan routes and guide you. While you navigate it keeps working with the screen locked.
Your location and destination go to the Lanes server, which finds your route. For traffic and some routes and searches, our server asks TomTom and GrabMaps (through Amazon Location Service) on your behalf, so they see our server, not your phone.
Searches also go straight from your phone to Photon (run by komoot), with your approximate position so nearby places come first. The map itself loads from OpenFreeMap. Like any website, these services see your phone's IP address.
None of these requests include your name, phone number or Apple ID.
Drive data
After a trip of 1 km or more, Lanes sends how fast traffic moved on each road you drove, the arrival time it predicted against when you actually arrived, and where your route was recalculated. This makes arrival times and traffic more accurate for everyone.
- The first and last 300 m of every trip never leave your phone, so your home and destination aren't included.
- Start times are rounded to 15 minutes, and reroute points to about 10 m.
- Trips are stored without your random ID (below), name or phone.
- Road speeds and reroute points are deleted after 30 days. What's left is a summary of each trip: its length, its rounded start time, and predicted against actual arrival.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Share drive data.
Reports
When you report a hazard, Lanes sends its type and location with your random ID. Other drivers see the type and location, never the ID, until the report expires (usually an hour). Reports, and confirmations from other drivers, are deleted a day after they expire.
Random ID
The first time Lanes connects, our server gives it a random ID, kept in your phone's keychain. It's used only to limit how often one phone can report or share trips, and isn't linked to your name, phone number or Apple ID. iOS can keep keychain items after an app is deleted, so the same ID may come back if you reinstall Lanes.
On your phone
Settings, recent destinations and saved places stay on your phone. Deleting Lanes removes them.
Where it's stored
Reports, drive data and random IDs are stored with Supabase in Singapore. Everything Lanes sends is encrypted in transit, and only we can read the stored data.
What we don't do
We don't sell data, show ads, or share data for advertising. We don't build profiles of you. We don't use your data for anything other than running and improving Lanes.
Your rights
Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 you can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw consent. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within 21 days.
Because Lanes doesn't know who you are, we usually can't tell which data is yours. Drive data in particular is stored without any ID, so it can't be singled out. Turning off Share drive data stops new trips being sent.
Children
Lanes is made for drivers and isn't meant for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app and at getlanes.app/privacy with a new date. If a change affects how your data is used, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
